“Renewable energy sources represent the future of the energy system, but there is no certain future without a solid knowledge base. This base builds on what we have available now, both in terms of existing PV systems and the operators’ know-how”

EXPERTISE AND INNOVATION FOR MARCHESANA PHOTOVOLTAIC REPOWERING PROJECT

EF Solare’s revamping and repowering program is key to the Group’s broader growth objectives. Starting with the analysis and monitoring of the performance status of photovoltaic plants located all around the Country, our departments have defined a broad plan of targeted interventions that can add value to the ongoing strategic efficiency process.

The latest repowering intervention concluded by EF Solare’s Operations team is the one at Marchesana’s photovoltaic plant in the province of Bari. The intervention first involved the replacement of current photovoltaic modules with new-generation components to ensure an improvement in overall efficiency (revamping). Thanks to the new photovoltaic modules, it was then possible to optimize the available areaincreasing the power of the photovoltaic system from 5 MWp to more than 6.7 MWp.

In these activities, involving the entire Operations department, it is essential to combine the need for innovation with each PV plant technical and environmental characteristics to maintain the best possible integration with the involved territories. Only in this way will it be possible to choose the technological solutions that best adapt to the morphological and landscape needs, thus balancing the operational needs to maximize clean energy production in the same surface area used.

By starting with a careful analysis and an integrated approach, it has been possible to significantly improve the amount of solar energy produced at Marchesana’s photovoltaic plant, with an expected increase of more than 3.5 GWh per year, to make a further contribution to the decarbonization of national electricity consumption.

In a scenario in which it is becoming increasingly urgent to strengthen the energy system through renewables, repowering interventions take on a decisive strategic importance. This is made possible by the combination of expertise and technological progress that, driven by operators’ investments, has enabled an exponential and rapid leap in the quality of solar plant components.

“Renewable energy sources represent the future of the energy system, but there is no certain future without a solid knowledge base. This base builds on what we have available now, both in terms of existing PV systems and the operators’ know-how”, commented Flavio Savini, Senior Engineer.

His words are echoed by those of Alessandro Caffarelli, EF Solare’s Head of Engineering: “It is precisely thanks to the expertise we have gained in recent years that we can meet the challenges posed by decarbonization targets. Building on this, however, we must also be forward-looking and continue encouraging research and innovation, thus ensuring a rapid, fair, and sustainable energy transition. Thanks to the work of the many people involved, EF Solare continues to achieve important results in the Group’s ambitious plan to upgrade technology and its plants. In fact, since the beginning of the year alone, 63 MWp of revamping and 19 MWp of repowering have been carried out, strengthening the Group’s leadership in Italy and Europe.”
