AGRO-PHOTOVOLTAICS LESSONS: SCHOOL-WORK ALTERNANCE IN OUR GREENHOUSES

Every year, EF Solare makes a daily commitment to support and take an active part in important educational events with schools and institutes in order to stimulate knowledge and working methods for the development of new professionals in the energy sector.

There are many sectors in the country that can benefit from the strength and creativity of the new generation towards innovative development. For this reason, Le Greenhouse, EF Solare’s historical farming partner, has decided to join the school-work alternance project proposed by the Professional Agronomic Institute of Spezzano Albanese, Calabria, in order to promote a deeper knowledge of the agricultural sector and new development opportunities.

The activities conducted by the Farm Group, led by Antonio Lancellotta, were valuable opportunities for professionals and students to observe and think about agriculture in a new way by showing its real processes and the latest innovations by marking a special dialogue for new insights.

Through classroom lessons and direct experiences in the agro-photovoltaic plants in Cassano allo Jonio (CS), it was possible to introduce and show close up the real operation of photovoltaic greenhouses and all the integration and synergy processes in these systems. Agriculture developed together with agrivoltaics is indeed an important new resource not only for the agricultural sector but also for the entire production market. Thanks to the setting of photovoltaic greenhouses, for example, it is possible to:

-preserve a thousand-year-old tradition for the cultivation of Calabrian cedar, innovating it and making it sustainable;

-reduce the carbon footprint of the farm thanks to the local and simultaneous production of clean energy;

-eliminate production scrap and resource waste thanks to the protection and support of the photovoltaic system.

Agriculture, as well as other sectors, needs to evolve toward a more sustainable and digital development, and starting from this, the experience of the school-work alternance conducted by Le Greenhouse was the perfect opportunity to create higher sensitivity toward sustainability and a deeper awareness about these virtuous projects, that can stimulate the growth of an innovative agriculture 4.0.

In the agriculture sector, it is necessary to have a new approach that looks with confidence at renewable energies and, in our case, at photovoltaics as a valuable opportunity for development and innovation” commented Antonio Lancellotta, co-founder of Le Greenhouse. “Talk to young kids about the integration between agriculture and renewables is a great opportunity to raise awareness and create a clear knowledge, without prejudices, of the real efficiency and virtuosity of this integration that at Le Greenhouse we adopted thanks to EF Solare more than 10 years ago and in which we continue to believe“.

This kind of continuous contamination between theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge represents an opportunity of great value for students, who can have the opportunity to learn more about renewables and innovative systems such as agrivoltaics, but also for the companies themselves, such as EF Solare and Le Greenhouse, which can also create in young people higher awareness of the new opportunities for sustainable development in which the same students will be protagonists in the future.
